Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College which is
also popularly known as ShSMC in short is a government medical college in
Sher-e-Bangla Nagor, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The ShSMC is also the first ever
government medical college in New Dhaka. The government set up the college to
spread medical knowledge and to produce more efficient doctors for the green country
Bangladesh. Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College was inaugurated on 6th May,
2006. It is the 14th Government Medical College in Bangladesh.
The college is surrounded by many other
specialized hospitals at Dhaka, such as the National Centre for Control of
Rheumatic Fever and Heart Diseases (NCCRFHD), National Institute of
Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), National Institute of Kidney Diseases &
Urology (NIKDU), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute
of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), National Institute of
Ophthalmology (NIO) and National institute of Neuroscience (NINS) etc.
